2018 Peter Alliss Masters

19th & 20th September 2018 - Old Thorns, Hampshire

Supporters of the Peter Alliss Masters Powered Wheelchair Crusade enjoyed their annual Tournament at Old Thorns for the 5th year in succession and were very fortunate to have good weather for the golf tournament and powered wheelchair presentations.

The event started with the Practice day and 'welcome' dinner before the main events on the second day. The Tournament was an individual Stableford competition played in four balls and with a shotgun start so that everyone started and finished together.
Everyone then got together on the lawns for the presentations of the powered wheelchairs followed by the Tournament Banquet in the evening. This included the announcement of the winners, auctions and entertainment from our after dinner speakers.

Our celebrity supporters included (l-r) comedian Adger Brown, actors Alistair Petrie, Christopher Villiers and Sion Tudor Owen and (out of shot) TV presenter Steve Rider and stunt arranger Vic Armstrong.

Everyone at the Charity is so grateful for the support of everyone involved - whether attending the event or supporting back at your club.

POWERED WHEELCHAIR PRESENTATIONS

A total of 10 powered wheelchairs were presented, with nine children in attendance and one unable to make the journey.

Chairs were presented by British Turkey Federation, Helsby GC, Blackness GC,  Ferndown GC, Surrey Golf, Farnham Lions, Steve Rider and Peter Alliss Masters.

The children receiving their new chairs included:

  • Harvey Doak aged 6 from Bridgend
  • Connor Ludlam aged 15 from Heanor
  • Dominic Chandler aged 12 from Sunbury
  • Katie Shute aged 14 from Farnborough
  • Matthew Newnham aged 14 from Surbiton
  • Tiernan Wise aged 7 from Winchester
  • Nina Collins aged 20 from Congleton
  • Bailey Horton aged 18 from Bexhill
  • Sadie aged 9
Again our thanks go out to all our wonderful supporters.

Here's what two of the parents said after the presentations:

"The powered chair and its flexibility make a world of difference to Nina. Because of her visual impairment the NHS will not fund a powered chair so the only way that Nina can have a degree of independence is to have use of a powered chair.  This is an absolute necessity at college where she can navigate the routes to the various classes and get involved in learning how to take visual prompts when out in the community. The other really useful feature for Nina of this chair is the 'recline' position. Since Nina's spinal surgery, sitting for long periods can be uncomfortable so it a great relief to be able to recline even for short periods. As far as the family goes it is just the pleasure of knowing that Nina has the best and most appropriate seating available." – Tim, Nina’s Dad

"It will make such a huge difference to Connor and our family as we will be able to explore more places. He is getting so big that it is almost impossible now to push him uphill, and any uneven terrain was just inaccessible. The powered chair gives us the freedom to go anywhere now, regardless of how steep the hills are! It really will make such a big difference to all our lives. Really can't thank the generosity of the Peter Alliss Masters charity enough for their life changing contribution." – Shelley, Connor's Mum

EVENING JOLLITIES

The evening's entertainment was provided by our old friend Adger Brown whose brilliant stories and cheeky smile had everyone rolling in the aisles.

He also did a magnificent job running the auction which raised several thousand pounds and enough to fund another powered wheelchair so many thanks again to all those making such generous bids.
